What actually decides it
Your management tooling. A team fluent in iDRAC scripting has real, accumulated automation that dies in a vendor switch, and the same is true in reverse for iLO shops. This is usually the whole decision, and it deserves to be.
The rest of the estate. Mixed fleets work fine technically, but spares, firmware baselines, and support contracts all get simpler when the fleet is one vendor. Matching what you have is a legitimate strategy, not laziness.
